Tatum’s Garden is a fully accessible playground
The construction of a fully accessible playground in the Salinas Valley has begun. The new park, called Tatum’s Garden Salinas, was designed by Leathers & Associates, a firm based in Ithaca, New York. After consulting with six local schools, the firm designed the park’s unique play environment. The playground will be fully accessible and will include innovative features like adaptive swings and climbing structures.
This Salinas playground is the first fully accessible outdoor playground. The park is a fully accessible facility, with a poured-in-place rubber surface and color-coded pathways. There are also interactive play areas with music and sensory experiences. There is a rock climbing wall with a variety of levels for children of all abilities, including those in wheelchairs. Interactive wall panels will challenge children’s problem-solving skills. The facility also features a safe zone that provides quiet space for children to play quietly and safely.
It is a community youth center
Tatum’s Garden Salinas is the first fully inclusive playground in the area. The idea for the playground came from the parents of a local little girl with spina bifida. Amanda and Shawn Bakker envisioned the project as a way to honor their daughter. The community rallied behind the project to help them build the playground, which is free to the public.
In December 2013, Tatum’s Garden Salinas opened its doors to the community. The community contributed over 3,000 hours to help make the new facility a reality. The foundation now wants to raise another $2 million for their next project: a second playground. This one will be located in Toro Park and will feature therapeutic swings and four-person seesaws. The project will also include a children’s encyclopedia.
It is a park-turned-playground
The community of Salinas, California, has come together to create a unique park and playground. With a vegetable theme and a large parking lot, the park is equipped with everything from carrot monkey bars to celery slides. A three-story broccoli tree house even has a music station. All this while providing a fun environment for children of all ages. And if you have kids of all abilities, you’ll appreciate the unique amenities offered by this park-turned-playground.
The park turned playground was created by local volunteers and the city of Salinas. The community donated 4 acres of land to build the park. More than 3,000 people from the community and local business owners donated materials and labor. Thousands of volunteers helped to construct the structures, which are reminiscent of Salinas’ agricultural history. Eventually, there will be plenty of places to sit and play.
It has a treehouse
The new playground at Tatum’s Garden Salinas includes a three-story broccoli treehouse. The community helped raise the $700,000 needed to fund the project. The vegetable-themed playground features carrot monkey bars, celery slides, lettuce bridges, and a treehouse. Families will enjoy the space as well as the tools for doing-it-yourself projects. Families can explore the new facility on their own or with the help of a family member.
Children of all abilities can play in the playground. Families from Alisal, Christopher, Gonzales, King City, Marina, North Salinas, St. Francis, and Pacific Grove can join the Tatum’s Garden Salinas treehouse. Children from Pacific Grove, Rancho San Juan, and Salinas are welcome to participate in the playground’s Children’s Shopping Tour.
It is a park for children of all abilities
The Tatum’s Garden in Salinas is the first fully accessible park for children with special needs. The park was started by Amanda Bakker, who’s daughter Tatum was born with spina bifida and uses a wheelchair. Amanda and her husband decided to build a playground for Tatum to enjoy while growing up in Salinas. The park’s construction was done using a community build model, with volunteers working on a daily basis to keep the park clean and well-maintained.
The park is a great place to bring children of all abilities. The park is beautifully decorated and is full of artistic flourishes. Throughout the park, children will enjoy playing with painted vegetables, tractors, and a play farm stand. The park is also a great place for families to get together. Tatum’s Garden will make Salinas a more inclusive and welcoming place for children of all abilities.
It is in Sherwood Park
Tatum’s Garden in Salinas, California, is an accessible outdoor playground. It is the first of its kind in Monterey County. The playground is named after Tatum Bakker, a little girl born with Spina Bifida and a wheelchair. Since Tatum’s condition made it difficult for her to play on a typical playground, her parents began searching for places that would accommodate her needs. They eventually stumbled upon a fully inclusive playground in Idaho. This playground inspired the idea for Tatum’s Garden in Salinas.
The playground is custom-built, and features playhouses, swings, and giant broccoli treehouses. The playground is accessible for children with disabilities and is open seven days a week. Tatum’s Garden Salinas is located at Maryal Drive and E. Bernal. It is close to covering the costs of construction, and it’s an ideal place for families to get together for playdates.
